step guide to a perfect background
Backgrounds are weird things.
They either fly off with the first blast of
the spray washer, or they stick like glue.
6
Heat up the old background with a hair
dryer or heat gun, this will make removal
easier.
Always clean all plastic surfaces and
remove any oils or glue, before applying
the new graphics.
Peel off a small proportion of the
protective backing on the background.
We prefer to do this in the front of the
panel or the front of the background that
you are applying.
Line up backgrounds. Before you stick the
small exposed corner down, make sure
that the backgrounds line up with the
shape of the plastic.
Apply pressure across the width of the
panel or backgrounds to check the that
the bolt holes, corners and edges line up.
Check that the holes and edges line up.
Start peeling back the protective packing
in one or two inch increments. Try not to
touch the adhesive because it weakens
the glue with the oil in your fingers. Keep
working the background across the
plastics.
Use one hand to stretch the background
across the plastic. If you have any
bubbles in the background go back and
reapply the background, make sure that
everything is smooth and without any
bubbles. Apply some pressure to the area
that is needed, edges and curves.
Heat up the background with a hair dryer
or a heat gun. DO NOT GET TOO HOT,
just warm the area around the edges.
Let the backgrounds sit on the bike for
at least 36 hours before riding, this will
give time for the adhesive to cure to your
plastic
